Issue 2013: End the War

by Elliot Dennis

The biggest issue of the New Year and the new term according to most voters in the United States is the economy. The election was mainly based on the economy and the question of what to do with our national debt is always one that is prevalent in the news. I too believe that our nation has many economic issues and ones that need to be sorted out.

However, if I were an advisor I would most like to see the war addressed.  The war on terror has been going on since October 7, 2001, and I and many of my peers and our parents think enough is enough. The war on terror has dragged on too long; it is a war that is incapable of being won. Of course our country should protect us against terrorism and its hardships, but I believe that can be done without actually being at war. Our troops need to come home.  The troops should always be supported, however their mission in the war has become a lost cause. An alternative to actually waging a war with our troops could be relying solely on drones to take out the key members of Al-Qaeda we are constantly looking for. I am not well-versed in the war however nine out of ten times I hear about a high-ranking member of a terrorist organization being killed it is due to our drones. I feel we have done enough with our manpower in Iraq and Afghanistan and should now rely on our technology to preserve what we have fought to stabilize so that our young men and women can come home to their families. Hopefully by the end of this year, there will be progress in pulling our troops out and by the end of President Obamas second term we can all live in a country that is not at war.

  1. BIG ELLLLLL...I have to agree with you on this one man. I think for sure that the so called "war on terror" has dragged out for way to long. And I believe that we as Americans have stretched it out to other countries in which we don't really need to be a part of.
