As we enter the New Year, I think that a lot is going to change in the
government. There are new problems occurring that need solutions like Gun Control
and Abortion. Abortion has been a re-occurring problem, but the newest addition
is the Plan B: One Step pill. Plan B is an emergency contraceptive that allows
women who have had unprotected sex to terminate any possible pregnancy within
72 hours. Many people, especially women activists, believe that this pill is
completely immoral and there is a lot of controversy over it. Many believe that
birth control in the first place is bad, but this pill takes it to a whole
other level. I personally disagree with all anti-abortionists. I believe that
the Plan B pill should be accessible to anyone who needs it, especially
teenagers. Unfortunately in this day and age, sex is everywhere: In the media,
and in social settings. Teenagers are learning about health and safety at such
a young age now, and they should know that if they ever do make a mistake, that
this emergency contraceptive is there to help. I think that many people believe
that this is just a “way out” of being a mother, or will be used as a form of
birth control, but the fact is that if there are more teenagers that are
mothers, that lessen the chances of them getting a higher education. I believe
that if a mistake happens, you should be able to fix it if it’s going to
ultimately help you in the long run. Women shouldn’t have to be held back from
having great careers and families in the future by having unprotected sex one
time and having a child from it.
I think the during this time, due to all the financial and foreign problems, issues such as women's health are often overlooked so I am glad you brought it up. I agree that allowing as many teenagers as possible to have a good and complete education is extremely important. I also believe that the Plan- B pill won't end up being used as a replacement of birth control due to the way the pill works.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you Giulia. We are in a time where sex is a topic that is all around American teenagers. It is so important to educate teenagers on health topics because one mistake can have such an impact on a teenager's life especially for women. I do think that there needs to be more education on the idea of Plan B though because many do not completely understand the purpose and consequences of using Plan B. I think that all women should have access to any type of birth control or emergency contraceptives because no woman should be forced to have a child if she is not ready. Babies should not be a consequence and woman should have to the right to control this.
ReplyDeleteI think that that the debate over abortion is one that will last for a long time, only because the nation is so divided on this issue, and there is hardly a compromise. People are either heavily in support of or against abortion, and the likelihood that they will be open to compromise is low. This is why I think that the Plan B pill is the closest thing to a compromise that we can get.
ReplyDeleteAn abortion is a second chance for women who landed themselves an unwanted pregnancy, but this act not only has multiple health risks, but so many people are against it, too. The decision to have an abortion is huge and life-changing and is one that nobody wants to make. This is why I think that having this pill as an option is a brilliant solution to this problem that is very common in this decade.
I do not think it is simple enough to be brushed off as a mistake. I believe that if there is controversy over abortion then there should be an equal debate for Plan B. Plan B should also be prescribed because there is no reason to take such a irresponsible move and then be able to sidestep it completely using a drug.
ReplyDeleteAdarsh I don't believe issuing the Plan B pill through prescriptions would be a smart move. I think there should be some kind of post-pill repercussions for both parties (male and female) involved, if at all possible. I think that the Plan B pill should be as easy to obtain as buying a pack of gun from Rite Aid. The last thing this country needs is teenage parents who are years away from being ready to raise a child. It ruins both the life of the teenager, and makes it tougher on the child to have a sufficient upbringing.
ReplyDeleteI hate to say it, but for once, I completely agree with Elan. I think that if in the long run potential parents' lives are benefitted, and the potential childs' life is benefitted by the Plan B pill, then there should be no judgement placed on people that think they are not suitable parents at the time of conception, and there should not be strict regulation placed on the obtainment of the pill.
